Much of the Shore was built out from the 1950s onwards, so a typical renovation involves a weatherboard, brick or fibre-cement-clad house with timber framing that has had decades of weather. Bathrooms and kitchens in these houses often sit against exterior walls, and opening them up is where we find out what the framing and linings behind them are really like. Older parts of Devonport and Birkenhead have villas and bungalows, and some areas carry character or heritage overlays that affect exterior changes.
